I have made the mistake that many women tend to make, which is giving up my reality for a man’s sake. That right there is a NO, NO. I did all I could to satisfy his soul. I put myself in situations that did not make me feel whole. I sat there and set aside my wants, just to pursue his needs. All that ever did was come in between my purpose and my desires to succeed. Sometimes at night I would always talk to God, asking him to help me find myself of who I had left behind. I would look at him sleep and cry out to the stars, looking and seeking for some type of freedom away from him and the abuse that had consumed my spirit. Then one night I looked in the mirror, realizing that I deserved better and that I had to make it as a singer. It was at that point that I wiped away my tears from my crying heart. Instead of giving up, I gave my life a new start. I learned to honor my needs by respecting my own space, mind and spirit. I never gave up who I was for anyone. In closing, “sometimes in the midst of all confusion, you have to learn to peek at your own beauty and look beyond who you are to see who you are becoming.”

Water and oil are two entities that will always reject each other; the same law applies to friends and enemies. In spite of logical reasoning it’s still a popular notion that these two things can be blended into one. Truly speaking the science of the mind can be a very complex thing but to replace rational thinking with high sounding nonsense is outlandish and irresponsible!
It’s stated in the bible that “As iron sharpens iron a friend sharpens a friend (Proverbs 27:5).” Even during the biblical era it was a common understanding that the purpose of friendship is to engineer growth and prosperity within one another. Not to dismantle opportunities that will lead to future happiness so a simple “job well done” won’t have to be sacrificed. Yet, as a member of this postmodern society I witness this corrupted philosophy being practiced time and time again.
For the time being let’s take in consideration that friends and enemies cannot be one in the same nor can they overlap each other to create a new element. I compare this theory to fire and ice because sooner or later one will consume the other, along with the fact that the relationship will be temporary. Either the alliance will grow into a raging fire or the flames between the persons involved will have to subside. These occurrences will fall into play as if it was a law of reason and true character will be revealed. It’s inevitable that one will eventually override the other.
In other considerations, my personal perception on this issue is that you’re either for me or against me. It’s impossible to have a relationship with your enemy without seeking some kind of selfish benefit. There is a popular saying that states “keeps your friends close and your enemies closer.” The reasoning for this statement is that there is no better way to learn all your enemies’ weakness than to befriend them. Additionally, take into consideration that your enemies may not come knocking at your door with weapons of mass destruction. With this common level of understanding my question is why expose yourself to someone who may not have your best interest at heart? What profits you from sleeping in the same bed with your advisory? The answer to the previous question is usually more complex when trying to defend your blatant absurdity.
All in all to befriend someone is to love them. Although love is a very complex all on its own one thing it is not is self-centered. If someone doesn’t have your best interest at heart then it’s time to release them from your day to day agenda. Since, I assume that you want your days to be filled with people who love you.

Artists need to realize that there are many sharks that set up boiler room operations just like in big corporate schemes with contests and auditions. There are so many companies out here trying to make a bitch out of you (if you are one of the first artists they contact). They will draw you into their web, snare you, and convince you to bring other artists along for the ride, only to trick you into signing your life away, do nothing for you at all, or "create" a few appearances for you (studio, club, concert, etc.).. Remember, they may already have received your contestant or audition fee, so they no longer need you, unless it is to attract other artists to pay that fee.
They look good, smell good, drive good, eat well, and dress good, but they are not there for you to like them, they are there praying you walk right into their trap. I know you are anxious and hungry, but you have also got to be smart about it. Just because someone is pushing a big body Benz, wearing an Italian suit, "talks the talk and walks the walk", you artists keep making the same mistake by thinking that this guy in this suit with all the money in the world is your ticket to becoming successful. Get out of the house or your basement studio, and go to some conferences and industry events and you will definitely find them there.
Now don't go run out and start passing around that someone named Lady Phoenix told me that all contests and auditions are scams. There are some legitimate contests and companies out there; you just have to weed through them all to get to the good ones. Ask for references. Have them show you artists they have worked with in the past, and what they have done for them. You need to know or have a working knowledge of what is being said to you by any professional in this industry. It is the only way to guarantee yourself that you won't be ripped off or used.
DO NOT WAIT until after you have signed because they threw some money, jewelry, a wardrobe, and other things at you, only to find our later down the road that you were misled and being ripped off. Have them checked out by the Better Business Bureau. Just put your thinking cap on and be aware. TIGHTEN UP OUT THERE!!!!!!

Its time for a turning point in your life that may or may not include your significant other; it just depends on how much your spouse is willing to invest in your happiness. I’ve been a victim of doormat syndrome and if you agree with the following statements most likely you are too. If you’re not happy with your current relationship and it seems as if your “betterhalf” is fine with the way things are going chances are you’re his/her doormat. The many benefits of a doormat is that they keep your feet clean when they get dirty and they even serve the as a purpose for decoration. However, when it’s time to clean that doormat most people don’t take theirs to the cleaners like the instructions usually says. It’s been predicted by many scientist that generation X will do worse than the one before us but with this kind of everyday activity you can’t blame them. Teen pregnancy is at an all time high, so are STD’s cases in young adults, and we have more black men that have been incarcerated than ones that possess a high school diploma. You will need a manager.
ARTIST MANAGERS
An artist manager represents an artist or act, overseeing and guiding all aspects of the artist's career, according to Wikipedia. This may include contract and business negotiation with other agents, career development and advancement and financial management. Artist managers require excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an in depth knowledge of the music industry and industry networks, good business and management skills and the ability to negotiate the best deals and conditions on behalf of the artist.
Artist managers are usually self-employed and work freelance, but may be employed or contracted by an organization or recording company. People are usually expected to have some skills before they enter the job and prior experience in accounting, business management, administration and working with people are an advantage. Networking with people in the industry is an important factor in getting work.
In the beginning of your career, I would suggest hiring or retaining a professional consultant, until you have signed with a legitimate manager or management company. It is good that when you begin talks with a label that you have good representation, an entertainment attorney, and a manager. I strongly suggest do not hire your friends and/or family members
I know some might refute all of this and say it's a headache letting someone else handle your business, but on the other end of the spectrum, it's an even bigger headache when you have poured your life into this business/industry, and someone else is reaping the benefit of that hard work because you did not handle your career as a business first.
